West midlands police said the statistics show victims are becoming more confident in reporting FGM. This report however became an issue of concern to National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).

In an interview with Mrs Isatou Colley-Manneh assistant secretary general Care for Women and Girls (CAWAG) anti FGM group Birmingham, said the figure is very shocking and concerning at the same. But again “I believe our work in creating awareness in FGM affected community has empowered and increase awareness as people are now becoming confident enough to report the matter.

However I believe there’s still more work to be done in terms of partnership between professionals and the community.

She advised the affected communities particularly Gambians to be supportive in tackling FGM as well as to ensure the girls are protected from the harm. “FGM is should be everybody’s business, so it is imperative for all us to contribute in eradicating it”.
