The now former minister of the Interior was sacked Friday morning after ten months in the post.

No reason has been given for his removal but a press release from the Office of the President said it was in accordance with the provisions of the country’s constitution.

The release said Mr. Fatty, leader of the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), which part of the governing coalition has been redeployed to the diplomatic mission.

The minister of Justice Abubacarr Tambedou, is overseeing the vacant post until a successor is named.

A former human rights lawyer, Mr. Fatty formed the GMC in 2009 while living in self-imposed exile after surviving a road traffic collision he blamed on the former regime of President Jammeh.

He has been a vocal critic of Mr. Jammeh and was named Interior Minister in February following the collapse of the Jammeh regime.
