The Attorney General and Minister of Justice has announced this afternoon that the government was waiting for the forensic test result of Solo Sandeng and the attackers of December 30, before handing over to their respective families for decent burial.
“We expect that this result will be received soon so that we can return the bodies to their families for decent burials.”
“On the forensic examination of the exhumed bodies, we are still waiting for the confirmation of the forensic examination test on the presumed bodies of Solo Sandeng, Njaga Jagne, Lamin Sanneh and Alhagie Nyass.”
On the April 14, 2016, Solo Sandeng, the former Youth leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP) had staged a peaceful protest for Electoral Reforms in the build-up to December 2016’s Presidential Elections. He was arrested by Gambian security and was later reported to have died in custody at the defunct National Intelligence Agency (NIA) now renamed as the State Intelligence Services (SIS).
On December 30th of 2014, Lt. Col. Lamin Sanneh, former commanding officer of the State Guard’s Battalion, Captain Njaga Jagne of 149 Infantry Battalion of the Kentucky National Guard in the U.S. and Alhagie Nyass attacked the State House.
Justice Tambadou revealed that the UN Transitional Justice Project Unit Management Team has reviewed and approved $25, 000 U.S. dollars grant to two NGOs. He said that the Victims’ Centre was too received $18, 000 thousand dollars, while the Female Lawyers Association of The Gambia is to receive $7, 000 thousand dollars.
He said that the Janneh Commission is coming to an end. “They have already started working on the draft report. We are hopeful that the final report will be submitted to the president by year’s ends.
