No agreement has been reached after two days of meeting by the Coalition 2016 on President Adama Barrow’s mandate and other pertinent issues.
The seven party members were supposed to reach a decision today based on their Memorandum of Understanding on whether Barrow should continue to lead the country for 5 years or step down after three years per their original agreement.
PDOIS said in a press release that it has excluded itself from the conversation.
However, earlier today shortly after the meeting, Chairperson Fatoumatta Jallow-Tambajang told journalists that no decision was arrived at on the president’s mandate even though she had earlier stated that the entire day would be dedicated on the issue as it was in the meeting’s agenda.
Instead she said they were only able to review the MOU and made editorials on the language as well as assigned a committee to finalise for it to be distributed among the stakeholders.
She said the members will meet on Thursday for final endorsement of the MOU, saying it has already been adopted.
Asked what decisions were made during the session; and the possible outcomes on Thursday, the chairperson refused to share any development.
‘’The procedure we have is that we cannot tell you the recommendations and conclusions of Thursday meeting because we have to communicate to His Excellency who is the flag bearer.
‘’Then we will sit with His Excellency who is the flag bearer, review it together as an executive and flag bearer and then reach a consensus or reach unanimity.
‘’After that His Excellency the president and the Coalition 2016 executive will call you and make a press statement.’’
The reason given for the coalition’s failure to make any decision the former VP said was because members have to thoroughly review the MOU before taking any decision on the pressing issue.
President Barrow on the other hand appears to be under no pressure as he attended the launching of his fans club on Saturday while the coalition members held a closed door meeting on his mandate.
Once again the party leaders of UDP Ousainou Darboe, NRP’s Hamat N.K Bah, GNCP’s Mai Ahmad Fatty, the independent candidate and current Vice President Dr. Isatou Touray failed to show up in the meeting.
Failed to show up, then they are all failures.
