In an effort to complementing the scintillating ‘’Food Bank’’ initiative by the Secretary General and leader of the United Democratic Party, the Students’ Wing also joins the crusade in empowering the food distribution programme by injecting a cash amount of twenty-four thousand five hundred dalasis and five bags of rice. The presentation takes place today at the party leader’s residence in Kotu.
As the world continues to be gripped and entrapped by the lethality of COVID-19 to human existence, coupled with the putting in place of strict domestic measures by governments of various countries that have registered cases of the virus, the overall food supply chain of most vulnerable people especially the penniless ones is cheapening exponentially. In view of this reality, the Students’ Wing deems it fit and necessary to also chip in and contribute its quarter into the ‘’Food Bank’’ initiative in order to help the financially deprived ones from a preventable hunger.
The handing over ceremony was punctuated with an exuberance enthusiasm, appreciation and thanks giving by all those in attendance inclusive of the secretary general and leader of the United Democratic Party, His. Lawyer Ousainou Darboe. In expressing delight, the party leader thanks the Students’ Wing for empowering the food bank initiative as a gesture to dissipating a looming preventable hunger crisis situation in the country as we continue to be at thug of war with the COVID-19 global pandemic . Without an iota of uncertainty in his statement, the Secretary General reiterates that with all hands on deck, we will be able to defeat the virus sooner than later.
In this regard, the United Democratic Party’s Students’ Wing would like to call on to all business institutions, philanthropists, NGOs, public representatives in all spheres of Government and all employed individuals with adequate disposal income to also dip into their pockets and contribute to the ‘’Food Bank’’ initiative so that we assemble sufficient resources to fight against the expeditious spread of COVID-19 and equally help the financially deprived households in the country. The only way that will enable us defeat this breakneck pandemic is when we set aside petty political differences and unite behind a common cause. Thus, we urge all Gambians to synergize their efforts and resources together into this social justice program in order to help secure the lives of those that are financially less privilege. In conclusion, we would like to once again thank all those who contributed their tokens to this magnanimous initiative.
