On 12th May, a hand-over ceremony of medical supplies was held by the Chinese Embassy and the Ministry of Health of The Gambia at the Gambian National Pharmaceutical Services Premise in Kotu. Attending the event includes H.E. Ambassador Ma Jianchun, Hon. Health Minister Ahmadou L. Samateh.
Ambassador Ma expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by MoH to prevent and control the pandemic.ย Ambassador Ma said, Chinese government has been engaged in international cooperation with openness, transparency, and reliability. We have been actively updating international partners with latest information about COVID-19 outbreak in China, carrying out international cooperation on medicine and vaccine development, and actively supported the initiative to suspend debt service payments to lighten debt stress and reduce financial risk for countries including The Gambia. Ambassador Ma stressed that the Chinese Embassy would continue to provide support to the Gambian Health Ministry for winning the final victory against the pandemic.
Hon. Samateh expressed appreciation for the assistance and support provided by the Chinese Embassy. He said, The Gambia is now facing great pressure from Imported COVID-19 cases, and the epidemic prevention staff at the border are in urgent need of protective supplies. The Chinese government and Chinese Embassy have donated various kinds of medical supplies to the Gambian government several times, which has strongly supported The Gambia’s anti-pandemic work. A friend in need is a friend indeed. The support from China demonstrated the solid friendship between The Gambia and China. The Gambia government will make full use of these supplies and strengthen cooperation with China to win a final victory over the pandemic.
