Breaking News: Gorgi Mboob, 108 others to be decorated tomorrow

The head of the Anti-Crime Unit (ACU) of the Gambia Police Force Gorgi Mboob and one hundred and eight (108) other promoted senior officers will be decorated on Tuesday, 2nd June 2020, at the Police Headquarters in Banjul, police spokesperson Superintendent Lamin Njie confirmed.

Mboob has been elevated to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police effective 1st February 2020. Despite his confession of human rights violations at the country’s maiden Truth Commission (TRRC) on 30th September 2019, Gorgi Mboob who was promoted in 2019 to the rank of an Assistant Commissioner of Police, was again elevated to the rank of Deputy Commissioner.

When contacted to shed led light on tomorrow’s event, Superintendent Lamin Njie said the decoration will be a low-key ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Digest News also confirmed that the event will take place at the Conference Hall at the Police Headquarters in Banjul. “Sitting arrangements have already been made and the event is scheduled to start at 10am,” our sources further hinted.

Readers would recall that The Digest had on 27th May 2020, published the promotion of 109 senior officers of the Gambia Police Force, from various ranks ranging from Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) to Commissioner of Police. The promotions took effect on 1st February 2020 and the Office of the Inspector General of Police was officially informed of the approval on 22nd May.
