Breaking News: Gambia registers four new Coronavirus cases

The Gambia has registered four (4) new confirmed cases of COVID-19, which brings the total of active cases to nine (9), Dr. Mustapha Bittaye, Director of Health Services at the Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday evening. He said the health authorities have conducted 33 new tests and there are 203 people under quarantine, and 9 active cases.

The country now has 34 confirmed cases of COVID-19 out of which, 24 recovered, 1 died.

Brief Description of Newly Confirmed Cases

• Case 031 is a 55 year old male Gambian who recently returned to the country from Senegal.
• He was taken into quarantine with his wife and daughter on the 12th June
• He was symptomatic – mild coughing
• His sample was collected on the 14th of June and a positive test result was received on the 15th June

• Cases 032 & 033 are epi-linked to Case 031 (husband and father to cases 032 & 033 respectively)
• They came as a family returning from Senegal on the 12th June
• Both of them were asymptomatic
• Their samples were collected on the 14th June and both tested positive on the 15th June

• Case 034 is a 50-year old male Senegalese national who recently returned to the country after travelling to Senegal
• He was taken into quarantine from Westfield Junction while attempting to reach his destination in The Gambia (Brufut) – got reported to the response team through the 1025 toll-free line.
