Black Lives Matter
Public Assembly for Black Lives! Saturday June 27. 10am Sharp. In front of US Embassy Kairaba Avenue
We are assembling in front of the US Embassy on Kairaba Avenue on Saturday June 27 at 10am to protest racism and police brutality against Black People in the United States.
The murder of George Floyd and our own Momodou Lamin Sisay constitute an integral part of the systemic racism and violence that Africans have faced in the United States since 1619 when our Forefathers and Foremothers were first transported to that part of the world in chains.
As we remember Black Lives in the United States we cannot fail to recognize with pain the incidence of police brutality and destruction of Black Lives in the Gambia and around Africa as well at the hands of our various Governments.
Over the past 3 years we have witnessed several Gambians lose their lives at the hands of State agents yet until today there is no accountability for Haruna Jatta, Kebba Secka and Ousman Darboe just to name a few. In the previous regime we can also recall with pain how Gambian Lives were wantonly destroyed by the Junglers death squad of the former Tyrant Yaya Jammeh with impunity.
Therefore, join us in a peaceful, somber and very serious public assembly in front of the US Embassy to show our grief at the way and manner Black Lives continue to be killed or tormented by individuals and States around the world just because we are Black. Not long ago we saw how Blacks became a subject of public beatings and discrimination in China just because of the colour of their skin.
Bring along buckets of water and soap as well as face masks and hand sanitizers to share and observe social distancing. Dress in white or black T-shirts or any dress if you have with appropriate Black Lives Matter messages.
Stand up for Black Lives. If you believe that All Lives Matter then stand up for that one Life which is currently the most endangered human Life so that Black Lives can also breathe just like all other Lives are breathing.
