It seems the lion has learned the art of writing, and the hunter is afraid. The government of President Adama Barrow and other collaborators have successfully revised history for 22 years, but Gambians are now learning the truth. Unfortunately, the home guards are intent on using arrests to hide the truth. Free Madi Jobarteh now.
There are these groups of Gambians, on both sides of the divide, who feel that only those who share their views have freedom of expression. Those with opposing views are attacked and bludgeoned into silence. Unfortunately, on both sides of the divide, these groups coalesce around narrow ethnic ideology. Anyone from the respective ethnic group who does not subscribe to the narrow ethnic ideology is considered a traitor and mole of the perceived opponent tribe.
We must resist this tendency and plant a national liberal spirit that allows for free expression of different views, no matter how acceptable or unacceptable they may be. We should seek toleration – accommodating, making allowance for, and fore-bearing with different ideas even when they are different from our ideas and perspectives.
A 3rd generation, notoriously persistent hereditary class, is still touchy about their murky origins, exploiting state power to harass those they cannot intellectually engage. Free Madi Jobarteh unconditionally.
