Posted by The Gambia’s confirmed COVID-19 cases have reached 172 as of Wednesday, 19th August 2020, with 14 new COVID-19 related deaths, Health officials say. The total number of COVID-19 cases ever confirmed in the country has now reached 2,288.
The ministry also revealed that 172 new cases were recorded
Meanwhile, the cumulative number of recoveries to date reached 435 after 20 patients were discharged after treatment, the report said.

This is the 122nd national situation report since the confirmation of the first case of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in The Gambia, on the 17th March 2020
😪 14 new COVID-19 related deaths recorded, bringing the total number of deaths to 77 – a crude case-fatality ratio of 3.4%
o Not all the said deaths occurred on a single day as sampling dates spanned from the 14 th to the 17 th August (14 th – 6 samples; and 4 samples apiece for the 15 th and 17th)
o Samples of all 14(13 males and 1 female) were collected posthumously
o The median age, at death, of the cases (12 positives and 2 indeterminates) is 61 years (range: 26 to 90 years)
🤧 172 new cases registered, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases ever confirmed in the country to 2,288
o This represents a 33% test positivity rate (172 out of 524 total tests performed)
o The median age of the new cases is 36 years (range: 2 months to 94 years)
🤗 20 new discharges effected from the treatment centres, bringing the cumulative number of recoveries to date to 435 (19.0% recovery rate)
😘Laptops, printers and other gadgets have been provided to the NPHL by the World Bank Group to support the implementation of e-surveillance
😷 524 new laboratory test results received from MRCG and NPHL
o Of these, 11 new tests returned indeterminant • Whereas 5 person were newly taken into quarantine, 14 new discharges were made
😷The country currently has 302 people in quarantine, 1,776 active cases, 198 probable cases and a crude case-fatality ratio of 3.4%
