Information reaching The Digest News has it that President Adama Barrow is expected to visit the Banjul International Airport this morning, to inspect the airport refurbishment work and as well gather first hand information about the current state of the airport before the opening of this year’s tourist season.
“The president is expected to visit the airport and inspect the refurbishment project,” said an anonymous source.
The refurbishment project is aimed at improving the working environment at the airport, to ensure a more secured airport and for effective and efficient service delivery.
A team of security officers from the State House which comprised Lt. Col. Kuluteh Manneh, 3rd in Command at the State Guard Unit, Lt. Joof, Principal Protection Officer of the president, a representative of the ECOMIG Forces, State House Military Intellligence and the SIS visited the Banjul International Airport on Moday morning for reconnaissance and surveillance before the president’s proposed unannounced visit, The Digest News has learnt.
The State House security team, led by Lt. Col. Kuluteh Manneh, also visited Faraba Banta earlier in the morning before proceeding to the airport.
The Gambia is expected to reopen its airport to international flights, amid the COVID-19 pandemic by the end of October and the airport project is also expected to be completed and contractors will hand over the project before the end of October 2020.
