The University of The Gambia has sworn-in its 13th cohort of medical doctors at a ceremony held at the Pencha Mi Hall on Monday 28th December, 2020. This solemn but joyous occasion was attended by officials from the government, Gambia Medical and Dental Council, the university management, parents and well-wishers.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Pierre Gomez, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) said: “These are another crop of highly trained young men and women, comprising six females and 15 males. They will support health care delivery in The Gambia during these trying and difficult times”.
After seven years of rigorous training and examination by health specialists from The Gambia and beyond, the new doctors took the sacred oath in affirmation of their commitment to their sensitive responsibility.
Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmadou Lamin Samateh congratulated the cohort for persevering through the challenges while advising them to be humane in their duties. “ Communicate with your patients. They will look forward to you for guidance concerning what they should and should not worry about and be always ready to give factual advice in a tactful way”, the Minister stressed.
Other speakers including the Minister of Women, Children and Social Welfare, Hon. Fatou Sanyang Kinteh and Provost of the School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, Prof. Ramatoulie Njie called on the new doctors to remain steadfast and work for the best interest of the country and the world at large.
