Majority leader Mitch McConnell is finally getting off the fence and perhaps above all-. However, Wednesday, January 6, he decided to put the country above the wounded ego of an unhinged president by standing on the side of reason. He has said that he cannot overrule the American people or the courts, which have pronounced the presidential election outcome. Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell said that it would permanently damage the Senate chamber and erode trust in the election.
Moreover, the political hawkish like Sen.Tom Cotton and Sen. Lindsey Graham deserting Donald Trump’s sinking ship. Well, every man who may have transgressed in the past always has one more chance to redeem himself. Most importantly, Pence refused to kowtow to the shenanigans of his principal, Donald Trump, who tried manipulating him to reject the votes. President Trump will now head to Mar-a-Lago, leaving Joe Biden to rebuild the ruins he will be leaving behind as his legacy.
Fatoumatta: A smart guy irony of the whole thing is that Ted Cruz’s position concerning Donald Trump’s craziness-right flank is now much weaker than it would have been if he had stood up to him in the first place. If he had defied Trump’s baseless claims of election fraud, he would doubtless have met with admiration from some Democrats. However, he not only would have preserved a modicum of dignity and self-respect but might have intimidated at least some of his troops. Now, with one display of cowardice and weakness after another, Senator Cruz looks as intimidating as a bowl of mush; and that can only encourage those who wish to undermine him. A basic rule of politics (and life): It is terrible to be opposed and worse to be hated, but by far, the worst of all is to be despised. Nobody on the face of the planet right now looks more despicable than Ted Cruz, who emerges looking better: unprincipled, narcissistic, and borderline-sociopathic, sure–but not, at least, scared of his own shadow.
However, nobody has ever admired the cowardly weaklings like Senator. Josh Hawley from Missouri gathered around the bully, flattering his every whim and quaking in terror at his possible disapproval and always regarded by Trump, the bully with amused contempt. The notion that someone like Sen. Hawley could become Trump’s successor is, I think, completely to misunderstand the whole nature of Trump’s appeal. The truth is that Trump always had only one possible successor–Trump himself. He is the first and the last “Trumpist”: but, of course, far from the only Republican capable of the enormous damage to the country and the world. After all, Reagan did infinitely more.
Fatoumatta: It is most appropriate to revisit this speech entitled “Art, Truth, and Politics.” In his Nobel Prize acceptance speech – yes, the speech of someone who received a Nobel Prize, unlike a person whose name rhymes with rump – Harold Pinter centers on the lack of veracity used to justify the invasion of Iraq, castigating both the US and the UK for acting like a lapdog in order to maintain the “special relationship.” As an English Literature student, I adore Harold Pinter, but my adoration deepens at his willingness to engage in politics and seek to create meaningful change.
Sovereign people should not make Presidents as a demi-god. Americans take extraordinary pride in freedom of speech, association and individual liberty, ideologies, religions, and (mostly) the government is all fair game for criticism, thanks to the First Amendment of the Constitution, which states that Congress shall make no law “abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

The law was the subject of enormous controversy in its day and its unpopularity. In opposition, Thomas Jefferson, the Founding father and the third President of the United States, and James Madison too served as the fourth President of the United States, resolved to declare the Sedition Act to violate the First and Tenth Amendments.
Fatoumatta: However, I do question whether “Trumpism,” in a sense required, has ever really existed. The Trump project was never based on a relatively coherent set of ideological principles like Reaganism or even Clintonism (though, of course, it had ideological connotations and effects, mainly as relating to white supremacy). Instead, it was based on the evil magic of Trump’s personality–which, of course, no one but him can possess. The politicians who tried to bind themselves most tightly to Trump have been, in a way, the *least* “Trumpist.” There are always those who admire the schoolyard bully, the kid whose swagger and truculence enables him to dominate (some) others.
