Mr. Bakary Sanyang, The Ombudsman of the Gambia has issued an arrest warrant against, Mustapha Batchilly, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Banjul City Council (BCC).

The arrest warrant was issued through the Office of the Inspector General of Police, after Batchilly failed to appear before the Ombudsman following his summon and several invitations two weeks ago.

“A lot our staff had lodged several complaints to The Ombudsman against the CEO, Mr. Batchilly regarding maladministration going on at the council,” said a source at the BCC who wished to remain anonymous.

Mr. Batchilly had faced a panel at the Office of The Ombudsman on Monday morning where he was interrogated regarding allegations made against him and his office.

Information gathered by The Digest News has suggested that this is the first arrest warrant to be issued by The Ombudsman since it began operation in 1999.
The Ombudsman has powers under Section 6 of The Ombudsman Act 1997, to order the arrest of a person, who after being served with summons fails to appear before him or her.

However, The Digest News will further investigate this matter and will publish updates in our subsequent editions.
