THE HEAD OF INTERNATIONAL SECURITY AT THE BRITISH MINISTRY OF DEFENCE VISITS THE ONGOING COMMANDO SELECTION TRAINING AT THE GAFTS
The head of International Security at United Kingdom Ministry of Defence (MOD) Mr Nick Gurr accompanied by the British Defence Attaché and delegation paid a visit to The Gambia Armed Forces Training School (GAFTS) in Fajara.
During his visit, he witnessed Assault Course Demonstrations by the participants of the Royal Commando selection drawn from across all the services of the Gambia Armed Forces.
The selection is being conducted by the 42 Royal Marine Commando Training Team of the British Armed Forces.
The process of weeding out in order to get the best of the best to be able brag the title of marine commando started since 11th October and will run through 19th November 2021.
The aim of the selection is to train, assess and select potential candidates for future commando training.
The selection process which started with 51 personnel now stands at a platoon strength (30 personnel) after subsequent weekly dropping of personnel who could not meet the minimum acceptable standards.
42 Royal Marine Commando is made up of specialist teams ready to deploy around the world to deliver Maritime Security, Support and Training to foreign nations and specialist amphibious support across Defence.
42 Royal Marine Commando deliver a combination of capabilities including: high threat capacity-building and training of overseas partnered forces; Ships Force Protection Teams; training to indigenous forces; maritime interdiction and boarding operations.
