A case of an attempted felony, in which an alleged shooting incident with a toy gun was in the early hours of Tuesday, 25th January 2022, reported to have occurred at the Head Office of The Gambia’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Head Office located along Bertil Harding Highway in Kanifing.
Impeccable sources hinted that in the early hours of Tuesday, unknown individuals went to the IEC Head Office and allegedly scaled the fence to enter into the premises.
“The officer who was on duty was on patrol within the IEC premises and realized that there was a strange noise. He then tried to confirm what was going on and then saw someone (unidentified). As he tried to approach this individual, he was shot in the leg and the unknown individuals ran away,“ revealed one of our sources.
Authorities confirmed that officers of the Gambia Police Force at Kairaba Police Station have mounted an investigation into the case.
Information gathered also has it that police investigators found a T-Shirt on the IEC fence and saw some footmarks on the ground as well.
However, it was also reported that one of the officers on duty who was shot on the leg did not sustain injury and investigators believed, the perpetrators might have used a toy pistol.
When contacted to shed light on this case, the spokesperson of the Gambia Police Force, Superintendent Lamin Njie said he will find out more about the case and get back to us. Unfortunately, The Digest News couldn’t hear from him until the time of publication.
