Ibrahim Jallow, the defence counsel for Sheikh Omar Jeng, one of the accused persons in Solo Sandeng murder trial has withdrawn from representing his client.
The accused, Sheikh Omar Jeng, informed the court before Justice Kumba Sillah-Camara of the High Court in Banjul on 7 May, 2019, that he has now hired the services of Lawyer Kennedy to represent him in the case involving Yankuba Badjie and other former NIA officers.
The lead prosecution counsel, Antouman Gaye, told the court that lawyer Kennedy was in the case and had not announced his withdrawal from the case, noting that he should withdraw from the matter.
He further stated that Lawyer Ibrahim Jallow, who was representing Sheikh Omar Jeng and was not present in court, was served by the court before the start of the vacation for the resumption of the case. He added that Sheikh Omar Jeng did not tell them who his lawyer is.
Sheikh Omar Jeng revealed that he was admitted at the hospital and chose to be discharged for the case to proceed the previous day and the following day. He said that since Lawyer Ibrahim Jallow who was representing him in the case was not present in court, he would apply to the court to adjourn the case for two weeks to be able to hire the service of another lawyer.
The lead counsel, Lawyer Antouman Gaye, reacted thathe was not opposing the application made by Sheikh Omar Jeng for the adjournment of the case for two weeks.
Defence Counsel Chime also informed that he was not objecting to the application made by Sheikh Omar Jeng to adjourn the case.
Justice Kumba Sillah-Camara subsequently adjourned the matter to the 28th May, 2019, for the continuation.
Sheikh Omar Jeng, Yankuba Badjie, Babucarr Sallah, Haruna Suso, Tamba Mansary, Lamin Darboe and Lamin Lang Sanyang were charged with murder and other different offences to which they pleaded not guilty.
