Defence Counsel Kennedy, who is representing Sheikh Omar Jeng in the case involving Yankuba Badjie and other former NIA officials, is expected to reply on points of law before Justice Kumba Sillah-Camara of the High Court in Banjul.
This followed a no-case submission he filed on behalf of Sheikh Omar Jeng to which the prosecution replied but he received the reply late. He was therefore given the opportunity by the presiding judge to respond to the prosecution on points of law on 24 June, 2019.
Lawyer Kennedy is not convinced that the prosecution has established the ingredients and elements of the offences charged to warrant Sheikh Omar Jeng to enter into his defence.
But the team of prosecution believes that they have established a prima facie case against Sheikh Omar Jeng to warrant him to enter into his defence.
Yankuba Badjie, Sheikh Omar Jeng, Babucarr Sallah, Haruna Suso, Tamba Mansary, Lamin Darboe and Lamin Lang Sanyang were earlier paraded before the court and charged with murder and other different offences. They denied any wrongdoing.
The prosecution, being led by Lawyer Antouman Gaye, has so far called thirty-five witnesses to prove their case.
Hearing continues on 24 June, 2019.
