The United Democratic Party under the leadership of Lawyer Ousainou Darboe held an emergency press conference today, 16th September 2023 at Manjai bureau to address the detained of their party colleagues, Momodou Sabally party’s campaign manager and Sheriffo Baiyo Sonko nominated councillor for Transport Brikama Area Council.
Briefing the press, Mr Darboe described Momodou Sabally and Sheriffo Baiyo Sonko’s detention as an act of provocation. “The arrest was solely intended to provoke Mr Sabally, we will never be provoked. Whatever you are doing, UDP will not fall for it.” Mr Darboe said.
The party leader and Secretary General of the United Democratic Party alleged that their opponents are using the police for their agendas.
“Two days ago, Ousman Rambo Jatta shared an audio castigating Momodou Sabally and Sheriffo Baiyo’s arrest” He disclosed.
“These were the things happening in Jammeh’s era and it’s happening again, it’s because the people in Jammeh’s era as head of security are the same in the current government’s head of security,” he added.
Updating about Sabally’s condition, “Lawyers went to see Sabally and he is in the best of spirit as his family” Darboe assured.
It could be recalled that Momodou Sabally and Sheriffo Baiyo Sonko, were called for questioning by the police on the 15th September 2023, following a Facebook post they made. The two were later detained at Kanifing and Kairaba police station respectively.
