Confidential sources have revealed that five officers of The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) may face charges of abuse of office and corruption following investigation into corruption related matters.
Immigration’s Director General Buba Sanyang and his deputy will not be indicted, our source added. They are not found wanting, the source indicated.
They were said to be excluded from the officers likely to be charged by the police.
The five officers to face charges included: Sambujang Badjie, Omar Badjie, Sulayman Colley, Omar Ceesay a cashier and one Mr. Saine.
The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) Spt. Mamanding S. Dibba said the matter was under investigation.
“At the moment, I cannot tell you whether they are to be charged by the police or not. However, when we get the accurate information, we will invite you.”
PRO Dibba added that these are issues that he could not substantiate at the moment. “If I want to tell you anything with regard to matter, I may not be giving you the accurate information. As I told you early, once I have the accurate information I will let you people know about it,” Dibba noted.
Our reporter has been reliably informed that the panel investigating the matter has recommended for the said five officers to be slapped with charges of corruption and abuse of office.
