Fabakary Tombong Jatta, the chairman and leader of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) has affirmed that former President Yahya Jammeh had called him on telephone to show his loyalty, saying he would never betray him (Jatta) as the leader of the party.
FTJ, as he is fondly called, said the former leader called him three consecutive days on the leadership crises confronting the party and told him that he is behind him as the new leader of the party.
“The former president called and we spoke here and there. Historically, what had happened from January, he spoke to us all of it on a loud speaker,” Fabakary Tombong Jatta told journalists at a press conference at the party’s bureau in Manjai.
“Considering what had happened over the past 20 years to the time of these things, it’s not humanly possible for me to betray you,” FTJ quoted, as the words of the former president. “You are still the party leader.”
Jatta said that it is clear that M.A. Bah and his camp have publicly admitted to conspiring against him and to discredit his leadership since January. However, Jammeh called him and reaffirmed his allegiance to him (Jatta) as the leader of the party, which according to him, is more important than the claims the other camp are making or have made.
The former lawmaker for Serekunda East, Mr. Jatta acknowledged that APRC like any other party has a constitution which guides the principles of the party and how it’s governed.
He urged the party militants to forget about what had happened during these past days and continued to unite as one family.
“We are asking APRC militants and supporters to understand that this is part of life, frictions happen. I want my family to be one and I have pardon everybody, those who have insulted me, those who have lied against me, those who have made allegations, those who went away, those who conspired to put us down ‘eyangfat ebay ye’ (I have forgiven all of you) Have forgiven them all.” he added.
