The National Assembly Select Committee on Youth and Sports has given the National Sports Council (NSC) an ultimate to correct their misleading press release that reveals it has recommended for the suspension of top Gambia Football Federation officials.
The Committee therefore urges the Council to immediately retract that media release.
“The Select Committee has emphatically made it clear to the NSC to issue a press release indicating that they are not the one that recommended for the suspension of the GFF officials within 24 hours,” our source who wish to remain anonymous said.
Our source added that the National Assembly Select Committee on Youth and Sports only shared the report of the police investigation about the alleged GFF Tax Fraud. However, they did not recommend to them to suspend the GFF top officials.
The executive secretary of the NSC, Marcel Mendy, said he was not in the office yesterday. Therefore, he could not comment more on the matter. “I’m not informed of any letter that is dropped at the office concerning the matter. May be it is dropped in my absence or someone just came at the office and gave them the message,” he said.
Readers would recall that on Tuesday, the NSC issued a media release announcing the suspension of the GFF President Lamin Kabba Bajo, Ebou Faye the 2nd vice president and Bakary Jammeh ex-co-member with immediate effect and were urged to hand over to the 1st vice president of GFF, Abdoulie Jallow.
The release was signed by executive secretary, Marcel Mendy, and copied to the secretary general and head of Civil Service, secretary general of Confederation of African Football (CAF), Inspector General of Police, permanent secretary Ministry of Youth and Sports and other relevant stakeholders.
They claimed that suspension came following the instruction and recommendation of the National Assembly Select Committee on Youth and Sports on the outcome of the investigation into alleged tax fraud involving the officials of The GFF and legal advice from Ministry of Justice, pursuant to Section 16 of the National Council Act 2000. However, the Select Committee has strongly refuted this claim.
