Defence Counsel Chime on 21 May, 2019, told the High Court in Banjul before Justice Kumba Sillah-Camara that the defence in the case involving Yankuba Badjie and other former NIA officers intended to file a no-case submission. This followed the announcement of the closure of the prosecution case by Lawyer Antouman Gaye. Counsel Chime applied to the court for a short adjournment to do the filing.
Yankuba Badjie, Sheikh Omar Jeng, Babucarr Sallah, Haruna Suso, Tamba Mansary, Lamin Darboe and Lamin Lang Sanyang face a charge of murder and other offences to which they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution has so far called thirty-five witnesses among whom were Nogoi Njie, Fatoumata Jawara and Fatou Camara who made startling revelations before the court.
The defence team is not convinced that the prosecution has made a prima facie case against the accused persons to warrant them to enter into their defence.
The prosecution team is expected to file a reply to the no-case submission the defence intended to file.
Justice Kumba Sillah-Camara subsequently ordered the defence team to file their no-case submission within a week. She then adjourned the matter until 29 May, 2019, for mention.
