The Management of the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA),has on Friday, 31st January 2020, commissioned eight new tractors or trailers including one empty handler, worth more than 50M dalasis. This effort is geared towards enhancing the smooth transportation of containers within the operational zone of the port terminals.
The GPA has, for the past three years, witnessed huge demand on Vessels calling the port of Banjul with a high Volume of Cargo discharged leading to increased throughput and output for a greater performance in terms of bosting the GPA revenue.
Readers can recall that, as per GPA audited account of 2018, the Management decided to paid 20M dividend to Government through the Ministry of Finance and as well as motivated the Staff by giving them bonus due to the Authority’s performance in 2019.
Therefore, the purchasing of new equipment for operational effectiveness and efficient service delivery for the general interest of stakeholders in particular and general public is a sign of commitment by MD Ousman Jobarteh’s Management.
The ceremony was attended by Ag. Director Technical Services, Deputy Director of Traffic Operations & Logistics, Deputy Director Mechanical, and a custom official at the GPA ground.
