The trial of the eight executive members of the Operation 3 Years Jotna who were arraigned before the High Court in Banjul today, has suffered another setback and has been adjourned to 24th and 25th February 2020, for the objection on the bail application from the state counsel and the response of the defense counsel base on points of law, before the judge’s rule over the bail application.
The trial could not proceed due to the absence of the presiding judge, Justice Aminata Saho Ceesay who was in another engagement at the launch of the Supreme Court Law Report 2011- 2012 as well as the launch of the reprint of the 1994 Law Report held at Ocean Bay.
The lead counsel for the accused persons Rachael Y Mendy was also attending the said event. Defense Counsel Mendy is a member of the National Council for Law Reform who were the organizers of the programme. The programme at Ocean Bay Hotel ended exactly the time the case should have started. The accused persons will remain in Mile II, until the next adjournment date.
The eight accused persons; Abdou Njie, Ebrima Kitim Jarjue, Sheriffo Sonko, Hagi Suwaneh, Fanta Mballow, Karim Touray, Yankuba Darboe and Muctarr Ceesay, are standing trial on three-count charges of criminal damage, unlawful assembly and rioting, contrary to the Criminal Code, Laws of The Gambia, Vol.10:01 , 2009.
