The eight executive members of the Operation 3 Years Jotna who were arraigned before the High Court in Banjul today, have finally being granted bail. Earlier, the case suffered setbacks and was adjourned on several occasions.
The eight accused persons; Abdou Njie, Ebrima Kitim Jarjue, Sheriffo Sonko, Hagi Suwaneh, Fanta Mballow, Karim Touray, Yankuba Darboe and Muctarr Ceesay, are standing trial on three-count charges of criminal damage, unlawful assembly and rioting, contrary to the Criminal Code, Laws of The Gambia, Vol.10:01 , 2009.
They were granted bail in the sum of D200, 000 with two Gambian sureties each.
Additionally, the State decided to drop the third count charge of rioting, which attracts life imprisonment. The accused persons are now facing only two count-charges. The case has been adjourned to 25th March 2020, for hearing.
