President Adama Barrow today presided over the the handing over of the Bansang Hydrological Headquarters for use by the hydrology division of the department of water resources to monitor the water quality and quantity of the country.
Constructed under the UNDP component of the GEF/UNDP/UNEP and the Government of the Gambia Strengthening Climate Services and Early Warning Systems Phase II Project, the facility will be used to serve as a hub for the collection of all hydrological data necessary for analysis, planning and dissemination of such information to all key stakeholders.
”I would like to express our appreciation to the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) not only for their current assistance, but also for the support that they have provided our country over many years.” The President said in his statement at the event.
President Barrow said it’s imperative to have adequate and reliable knowledge about water resources planning and management, since water resource systems are dynamic and highly weather driven.
He added that: ”The Bansang hydrological headquarters will directly address the needs of the country in terms of advising the relevant Ministries and stakeholders on the quality and quantity of both surface and groundwater available in the country.”
Noting that It will contribute also to achieving the goals stated in the National Development Plan. Its commissioning today is welcome news for the country.
