Gambian authorities (names withheld) have confirmed that the Banjul South Parliamentarian, Hon. Fatoumatta Njie, widely known as Touma Njie, was arrested Sunday evening, following a confrontation with local security officers at the Golden Beach Hotel in Bijilo, who are guarding the COVID-19 Quarantine Center.
The Banjul South MP is alleged to have attempted to take out of the Quarantine Center, her close relative(s) who are being quarantined.
“The lady was arrested because she tried to take her relatives out of the Quarantine Center and the security officers refused. She then had a bitter confrontation with them, and they called the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) at Senegambia to arrest her. She is currently at the Senegambia Police Post,” the source (name withheld) disclosed.
When contacted to shed light on the arrest of Touma Njie and allegations against her, Modou Njie, director of Health Promotion said he will contact the Director of Public Health Services Buba Manjang, to know what transpired at the said Quarantine Center. He promised to give a feedback once he confirmed the story.
