As part of his social responsibilities in the fight as against the novel Coronavirus, Hon. Alieu K. Draboe, the Brikama-Kembujeh Ward Councilor, on Tuesday donated sanitary items worth approximately D20,000 to the Brikama Major Health Centre, with the support of the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA).
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Hon. Alieu K Darboe, said greater collaboration and efforts are needed in these trying moments in the fight against COVID -19. He called for more support to complement the efforts of the Ministry of Health by donating sanitary items.
The Brikama-Kembujeh Ward Councillor donated items such as packets of soap, buckets, sweeping brushes, bags of detergents, amongst other things, to protect the public against the spread of the virus especially the health facilities.
Darboe said that grassroot development is very paramount and his benevolent gesture was prompted by that believe, adding that he has been giving similar support since in 2008.
“The country needs a proper health care management, without which the country can’t work effectively,” he stated.
In his welcome remarks, Lamin Sanyang, the officer-in-charge of the Brikama Health Center, stated that they are touched by the donations received recently. He called on for all efforts to be directed to mobilising funds and resources in the fight against COVID-19.
Sanyang also thanked the donor for the gesture and called for more collaborative efforts from the councillor and his team.
“I assure all of you that these donated items will be put into good use and will serve the purpose for which they are being given” he concluded.
In a separate engagement, Ward Councillor Alieu K. Darboe presented 5 bags of cement for the construction of the village Health post. He also donated some sanitary items to Missara Dutokoto youths.
Other speakers include, Dr Tunkara of Brikama Health Centre, Ousman Bah Councillor of Jiboro Ward and other important dignitaries.
