The leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP) Hon. Ousainou Darboe has on Sunday launched a non-partisan National Food Bank Program in an effort to support the poor people in The Gambia who are living from hand to mouth during this trying moments of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I plead on all Gambians to come out and help each other. There is a state of emergency. In some countries, people are not allowed to wander outside. However, that’s not the case here because here majority people live from hand to mouth. So, we need to help the poor and form food banks to be given to the municipalities who know who where the poor are situated within their jurisdiction,” the country’s former Vice President Darboe who also doubles as the leader of the UDP was quoted at a meeting held on Sunday, which was posted on social media.
