The Gambia Police Force is mourning the death of their colleagues, Chief Inspector Phillip Jarjue and OC of the Police Sports Unit ASP Alieu Sonko, both of whom passed away within 48 hours. The officers were both sick and died a natural death.
Chief Inspector Phillip Jarjue, a training instructor at the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) died yesterday (Sunday) while ASP Alieu Sonko died today, (Monday). CI Phillip Jarjue was last posted to Bakau Police Station as Assistant Station Officer.
ASP Sonko was a Gendarmerie officer and he joined the Gambia Police Force during the amalgamation in 1992. He was attached to the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) and later moved to the Child Welfare Unit. Sonko was again redeployed to the Police Sports Department where he became the Officer Commanding (OC) until he met his untimely death.
The two officers are described by many of their colleagues as hard working and dedicated to duty.
He will be laid to rest today at 5pm at Old Jeshwang Muslim Cemetery, while Phillip Jarjue will also be accorded a Christian burial in the coming days.
