Two other officers of the Gambia Police Force have died this week. Superintendent Abdou Cham of the Fraud Squad Unit and Sub-Inspector Amie Kolleh Joof of the Mobile Traffic Unit of the Gambia Police Force have both passed away this week.
Sub-Inspector Joof passed away on Tuesday and was laid to rest on Wednesday at the Muslim Cemetery in Jeshwang, while Superintendent Cham passed away on Thursday and was laid to rest in Busumbala.
Earlier, Chief Inspector Phillip Jarjue and ASP Alieu Sonko both passed away on Sunday and Monday respectively. ASP Sonko was laid to rest on Monday at the Muslim Cemetry at Jeshwang while CIP Jarjue was laid to rest at his hometown in Brikama Darsilami yesterday at 17:00 hrs GMT.
The late Supt. Cham, a resident of Busumbala, started his career as a teacher and had graduated from the University of The Gambia before joining the police. Initially, he worked as a CID officer at the Serious Crime Unit and was later redeployed to the Fraud Squad Unit, the unit under which he worked until his untimely demise. He had also benefitted from the police peacekeeping package. Cham had battled with his sickness for almost five years.
For Sub-Inspector Amie Kolleh Joof, she is a native of Banjul but was residing in Tabokoto. Earlier, she worked as a security officer at the Banjul City Council with the rank of a Sub-Inspector. She later joined the police in 2015 when former president Yahya Jammeh dismantled the Municipal Council securities and incorporated them into the security sector.
She was at Mobile Traffic Unit and was posted at the Tabokoto Junction before her demise.
In a similar incident, an officer of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) Dawda Sanneh of Soma DLEAG station, also passed away on 26th May 2020 and was laid to rest at his home village in Kombo Sanyang at 1700 hrs GMT.
