The first deputy party leader of APRC, Ousman Rambo Jatta, was on Wednesday invited for questioning at the Serious Crime Unit of the Gambia Police Force at the Police Headquarters in Banjul. Mr Jatta’s questioning came following a complaint lodged by human rights activist Madi Jobarteh and Nyang Njie, an economist and a political analyst.
Mr Jobarteh and Mr Njie had on 15th May 2020, submitted a letter of complaint to the Inspector General of Police, stating that Ousman Rambo Jatta of Bakau had threatened their personal liberty and lives in a WhatsApp audio message that he released to his party supporters. The said letter is also copied to the IEC, National Human Rights Commission, The Inter-Party Committee, Minister of Justice and the interim party leader of APRC Fabakary Tombong Jatta.
Contacted to shed light on this matter, Madi Jobarteh said; “We find Rambo’s message to be a deliberate, premeditated and direct incitement to violence to be meted out to the two of us. His message is an act of intimidation and defamation of our character, which are in total violation of the criminal laws of The Gambia.”
He stated that Rambo’s message is also an attempt to silence both him and Nyang Njie from criticizing former president Yahya Jammeh, his government and the APRC for the purpose of holding them accountable.
Police sources have informed this medium that Ousman Rambo Jatta was invited for questioning on this matter and was later asked to go home while investigations are ongoing.
However, Rambo was also questioned sometime ago over comments he made against one Fatou Toufah Jallow, a victim who testified at the ongoing truth commission, where she claimed the former president Yahya Jammeh had raped her.
Below is a translation of Rambo Jatta’s audio message to Nyang Njie and Madi Jobarteh in Wollof and English Languages:

You have done it this time, but you have not escaped. We will be monitoring you on what you say. We are not going to sit idly and let you ridicule, insult, and try to defame our president. We will not take it for you. Be careful, we are not your match, you are rude. If you have your nonsense, keep it in your pocket. We are not your companion. Yahya Jammeh is not your companion. Do you think we are afraid and that is why we keep quiet? We were just trying to let the dust to settle but what you people did in 2017, if anyone repeats that again, you will see us like hellfire. That is a warning for you Nyang Njie, mind your tongue and you Madi Jobarteh. You are short like a butt. Sekou Toure was right that by dusk he would …because of your misconduct and nonsense were too much. For you Madi, we are preparing one for you “
