Detained Gambian journalists released on bail

 

 

 

 

 

Four journalists; Pa Modou Bojang, CEO of Digital Home FM; Gibbi Jallow, Manager of King FM; Ebrima Jallow and Madiou Jallow, all of King FM who were arrested on Sunday’s protest (26th Jan.), have been released on bail Tuesday morning.
The detention of the four journalists is in connection to the protest organized by the 3 Years Jotna Movement on Sunday.
Police have filed a single charge of incitement of violence against the accused persons and they are expected to appear in court tomorrow.
Two radio stations; Digital Home FM and King FM were also closed down by the police.
At least 137 protesters have been arrested and are detained while investigations are ongoing. Executive members of the Gambia Press Union and their lawyers; Lamin J Darboe and Abdoulie Fatty, have on Monday evening visited the detained journalists at Old Yundum and Wellingara Police Stations respectively.
