Posted by Police in Basse, Upper River Region, have arrested one Abdou Jawara, a resident of URR for reportedly raping an underage girl (name withheld). He also attempted to rape another minor (name withheld) say sources.
A source that spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity confirmed the development to us. According to him, the matter was first mentioned yesterday at the Basse court, but it has been adjourned.
The accused who is believed to be in his 50’s has confessed to have committed the crime, a source said.
“The accused has confessed to have raped the 11 year old girl and also attempted to rape another nine year old girl.” Our source added that the suspect was earlier detained at the Basse Police Station as investigation into the matter continues.
The spokesperson of The Gambia Police Force, ASP Lamin Njie, couldn’t be reached for comments at the time of going to press.
