Gen. Umpa Mendy, Tamba To Reappear Before Court Martial

The principal protection officer of former President Yahya Jammeh and former State Guard commander, Gen. Umpa Mendy and Gen. Ansumana Tamba respectively will today April 25, reappeared before the Court Martial at the Yundum Barracks presided over by Justice Amina Saho-Ceesay to take their plea.

The duo are being charged with desertion contrary to the Armed Forces Act.

The Court Martial in it last sitting overruled the preliminary objection raised by the defense counsel regarding the court’s jurisdiction, giving orders that the accused persons take their pleas on April 25, 2018.

These two top military officers left The Gambia in Jan. 2017, with former President Jammeh to the Equitorial Guinea where they stayed with Jammeh for a while, however, they returned home just two months ago without being arrested at the Banjul International Airport exposing a serious security lapses in our intelligence.
