The Attorney General and Minister of Justice will tomorrow, 2 May, 2019 submit The Gambia’s combined periodic report on the situation of Human Rights and Rights of Women in The Gambia before the 64th Ordinary Session of the African Human Rights Commission in Egypt.
The 64th Session of the African Human Rights Commission is being held from 24th April to the 14th of May, 2019 in Egypt and The Gambia Human Rights report covers the period 1994 to 2018.
It is mandatory for every member state to submit comprehensive report on the situation of human rights in their country to the Commission.
The Gambia’s report would be presented before the Commission by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubacarr Ba Tambadou before the 11 panel member Commission.
The Gambia will also be presenting its initial reports under the Protocol to the African Charter on the Rights of Women in Africa otherwise known as Maputo Protocol.
The 169 page report covers all the 68 articles of African Human Rights Charter and 32 articles of the Maputo Protocol.
This report was received by the African Human Right Secretariat in Banjul on the 3rd September, 2018.
However, the report has contributions from Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) an important ingredient in the drafting of the report that made The Gambia fulfill its obligations under the Charter with its relation with civil societies.
The chairperson of the Gambia Human Rights Commission, Emmanuel Joof is also in attendance.
