Serrekunda Protesters Released

By Bekai Njie

Police have released on bail a dozen protester that were arrested in connection with last month’s Serrekunda protest, police spokesperson ASP Lamin Njie has confirmed.

Rapper activist Ali Cham who is widely called Killa Ace was among those arrested before being on Monday afternoon. But police say investigation into the matter continues.

“The police are investigating their alleged involvement in vandalism and destruction of properties during last month’s mass protest in Serekunda,” ASP Njie told The Point on Sunday.

Last month, hundreds of youth protested against the death of a 33-year-old market vendor Ousman Darboe. He was alleged to have been tortured by the police, but police has since denied any wrongdoing.

Government, however, has set up a commission of inquiry to look in the allegation levelled against the police.

The protest that nearly turned into a riot resulted in the burning of vehicle tyres and also the house of the head of police Anti Crime Unit and several properties.
