Semlex Company closed for failing to pay taxes

The Belgian company contracted by the Gambia Government to issue national Identity Cards and Passports has been closed by officials of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) for failing to pay tax to the country revenue authority.
According to the GRA, the Belgian company has not been paying tax for nearly two years since it began operation in The Gambia.
“Currently we closed them [Semlex] due to their failure of settling their tax situation. They have been in the operation for close to two years now and the impression they gave us was that they will have a Special Investment Certificate (SIC) that will exempt them from the payment of corporate and other taxes,” GRA’s Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe told journalist Kebba Jeffang of The Chronicle in an exclusive interview on Monday morning.
