Clarification on misinformation regarding a radio phoning programme by the Director of Health Promotion on COVID-19

The Ministry of Health is aware of a rumor circulating on social media initially emanated from a Facebook page of What’s on Gambia. The Said page has it that “quote”

“President Adama Barrow will tonight announce that there are two suspected cases of coronavirus in The Gambia. According to the Ministry of Health, the suspects are from Indonesia via Senegal and have shown signs warned by the WHO. The Director of Health Promotion & Education, Momodou Njie disclosed on GRTS radio this morning that the two suspects are right now isolated at the MRC to monitor their situation”

We hereby inform the public that this information is totally false, misleading and taking out of context. It is in no way represent the view of Ministry of Health.

The Director of Health and Education at the Ministry of Health made it categorically clear in his interview on GRTS Gambia This Morning, that the suspects in question do not meet COVID-19 Case Definition criteria.

The Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that there is no need for panic or alarm. For more information, call 1025.
