Combating Coronavirus pandemic: Gambia Government rubbishes condom procurement claims

Spokesperson Sankareh

The spokesperson of the Gambia Government Ebrima G. Sankareh has rubbished claims made by some Gambians that the Gambia Government has included in its budget of the D500M allocated to the Ministry of Health to combat the COVID-19, the procurement of condoms. He added that the claim is a lie fabricated by detractors to sway attention from Government’s genuine efforts to tackle the Coronavirus disease.

Mr. Sankareh rejected these claims on Thursday, 16th April 2020, in a press release issued to inform the general public of the amendments made in the State of Public Emergency Power Regulations.

He said: “In a separate development, it has come to the attention of The Gambia Government that a false story on procurement of condoms is trending on social media for all the wrong reasons. The story is fatally false and simply calculated by detractors to sway attention from Government’s genuine efforts to tackle the Covid:19 Viral Pandemic.”

On behalf of the Gambian leader, Mr Sankareh urged citizens to respect the regulations, set aside their political differences and work together to effectively fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
