Gambia: Alleged assailant arrested, charged for chopping-off London Corner native’s hand with a cutlass

Officers of the Gambia Police Force (GPF) have on Sunday charged one Aziz Ndow, a resident of London Corner in Serekunda for allegedly chopping-off the hand of one Cherno Sulayman Jallow with a cutlass.

Ndow was arrested on Saturday night following a fight between him and Cherno Sulayman Jallow, a native of Serrekunda London Corner, during which he allegedly chopped his hand off with a cutlass. The suspect has been charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.

The tragic incident occurred in Serrekunda London Corner on Saturday night and was reported to the Police Station at London Corner.

Confirming the story to The Digest News, the police PRO, ASP Lamin Njie said: “Police received information about certain individuals fighting on the streets of London Corner in which a team of police officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.”

He revealed that upon arrival at the scene the police realized that Cherno Sulayman Jallow was assaulted with a cutlass by Aziz Ndow, thereby causing him injury.

“The victim was evacuated to the Serrekunda General Hospital where he was admitted, treated and later discharged. The accused Aziz Ndow is charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm contrary to the Laws of the Gambia and is currently awaiting trial” said ASP Lamin Njie.
