GAMBIA NAVY ARRESTS FISHING VESSEL – SARA

The Gambia Navy on Saturday 18 April 2020 arrested and brought to anchor a fishing vessel. The fishing vessel ‘SARA’, was caught about five (5) Nautical miles from shore – Bijols Island. Sailors of the Navy’s GNS MUSA MALIYA acted with courage and dedication to duty with full employment of ethics of patrol while at sea.

‘SARA’ was stopped and boarded for inspection. The boarding team lead by Sub-Lieutenant Abdoulie Njie confirmed the validity of the vessel’s fishing license and inspected the fishing net. Both were found to be correct and in line with parameters set for right size nets.

However, during the inspection it was discovered that the vessel was fishing within a prohibited zone and an arrest was effected. The arrested vessel was then escorted to Banjul for legal punitive actions for alleged offence committed.
