Gambia Records 2 New Cases of COVID-19

The Gambia’s Health Ministry has on Friday announced the confirmation of two new case of Coronavirus.

This information was announced by Dr Mustapha Bittaye, director of Health Services, during the daily press briefing at the Central Medical Stores in Kotu. The Gambia now recorded a total 20 confirmed cases, out of which 10 are active cases, 9 recovered and 1 died.

Bakau records 3 confirmed cases

A Senegalese man believed to be in his early 50s was on Thursday tested positive of the Coronavirus, bringing the total number of persons infected with the virus in Bakau community alone to 3 cases.

The man was said to be living at the seaside of Bakau and he was confirmed to have caught the virus after officials from the Ministry of Health conducted a massive screening exercise in the said town.

Dr. Mustapha Bittaye, the director of Health Services, on Thursday said: “A new laboratory confirmed case has been recorded, adding that a total number of cases confirmed in the country to be 18. He added another probable case has also been recorded.”

He said both the newly confirmed and the probable test results are results of samples collected during a mass screening held in Bakau. He further stated that the confirmed case manifests symptoms like those of COVID-19.
