Solo Krummah’s body finally given back to family

The Gambia government has finally released the death body of Ebrima Solo Krummah the second United Democratic Party member who died in prison while serving sentence alongside with the party’s leader Ousainou Darboe and other party members.  Mr. Krummah died after going through a medical operation without the consent of neither his family nor his party.

Krummah was arrested by police on May 9th, after making speeches in Banjul demanding the release of his party leader and others as well as the release of the body of Ebrima Solo Sandeng party’s organising secretary and the first party member to who was believed to be tortured and later died in prison sometime April 2016.

Krummah and dozens of people including the party leader Ousainou Darboe were given a three year sentence in July for participating in a peaceful protest demanding the release of other party supporters and the release of the body of a senior opposition official who was tortured to death in custody.

The international community has since condemn the action of the security forces and asked for an independent investigation over the online videos showing riot police beating protesters with batons, kicking and slapping them.

Gambia security forces have been accused of serious right violations and use of torture on political detainees.
