12 soldiers appear before Court Martial

Twelve soldiers of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) on Friday appeared before the Court Martial, at the 1 Infantry Battalion in Yundum, facing nine counts of charges including treason, concealment of treason, mutiny and defamation among others.

The 12 men were said to be part of a group using WhatsApp allegedly spreading audio recordings in contrast with Gambia Armed Forces Act.

The suspects: Captain Yaya Jammeh, an aid to former President Yahya Jammeh, Lieutenant Abdoulie Jarju, Lieutenant Yahya Jammeh, Sergeant Babucarr Sanneh, Sergeant Malick Bojang, Corporal Sulayman Sanyang, Corporal Lamin Gibba, Corporal Ebrima Jallow, Lance Corporal Samboujang Bojang, Lance Corporal Abba Badjie, Private Mbemba Camara and Private Alieu Sanneh.

They were arraigned before judge advocate Sainabou Wadda-Ceesay. Colonel Salifu Bojang President of the Panel and Lieutenant Colonel Seedy Joof, Major Abdoulie Manneh, Major Lamin K Sanyang and Major Basiru Sarr were all part of the panel.

The case was adjourned to 27th November 2017.
