Gambia: Two detained soldiers released, asked to report back to work

The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) has on 23rd April 2020, released two soldiers, namely, Sergeant Fafa Ceesay, a Signaler and Lance Corporal Sulayman Sanyang, after investigators found them not involved in the fuel coupon theft at the Defence Headquarters in early April of this year, The Digest News was reliably informed.

The two soldiers have also been asked to report back to work with immediate effect.

Confirming the story, the GAF Spokesperson Major Lamin K. Sanyang said: “The two soldiers have been asked to report to work while the guards on duty on the fateful night of the break-in continue in detention with the two soldiers, L/Cpl Sarjo Conteh and Ismaila Saidyfaye, who are the main suspects in the case.”

Readers would recall that GAF had sometime in the second week of April this year, arrested Lance Corporal Sarjo Conteh and Corporal Ismaila Saidyfaye in connection with the missing fuel coupons at the Defence Headquarters worth over D300,000.00.
