The female traffic officer whose picture was trending on social media on Saturday, 18th July 2020, while directing the traffic under the heavy rains has been promoted this morning to the rank of a Sergeant.

CPL Kaddy Jarjue’s promotion came following heavy praises for her great work with bare foot in the traffic during a heavy downfall. Gambians on social media heaped praises on the female officer for her courage and hardworking despite the lack of personnel protective equipment such rain boots, jacket, etc.

This morning, the police management under the command of the Inspector General of Police Alhagie Mamour Jobe responded positively by promoting her to the rank of a Sergeant.

Sergeant Jarjue, a mother of three, is working another female officer called with Sub-Inspector Mansata Sonko. Reliable information reaching The Digest News indicates that last week they were the only two posted at the Westfield main Junction.
The female traffic officers around Westfield are divided into two groups. Kaddy Jarjue’s group was said to be in the morning shift last week and the other group was working in the afternoon shift.

The second group is led by Sub-Inspector Fatou Sarjo. She is also a very hard-working officer. She is working with CPL Demba Sabally and CPL Fatou Sonko. CPL Fatou Sonko was recently sent back to the main office at Mobile Traffic in Kanifing along the Mamadi Maniyang Highway and is currently believed to be on maternal leave. She is also another hardworking officer and according to reports, while she was heavily pregnant, she used to direct traffic at Westfield.

NOTE TO THE POLICE MANAGEMENT
The police management has done a great job by recognising the great efforts of the young female officer and rewarded her with a promotion. This is a laudable initiative, but it should not stop at that point.

The police management should now look into the welfare of all officers, especially those who are controlling the traffic during this difficult moment in the raining season. The traffic officers need to be provided with personnel protection equipment such rain boots, jackets, torch lights, gloves, face masks, hand sanitizers and even new kiosks where necessary in every checkpoint.

Congratulations to Sergeant Kaddy Jarjue and all other female officers on the traffic. Keep up the good job for our dear motherland, The Gambia. Stay blessed!
